Early morning through Moraine Park from the YMCA. We were hoping to find the elk that are starting to congregate for the rutting season. Just over the top of the moraine, we came across a herd of about 25. One bull elk was summoning all the cows and their calves together.
Most of the females had their calves with them as they moved in and out of the shadows of the pines.
Past the Big Thompson on the way back to the YMCA, all the shrubs that were blooming on one of my first hikes of the season are now in full fruit.
