Muñeca's History

Here is a little of how Muńeca came into being. Muñeca started her life in Siberia, Russia and wears a coat made from reindeer fur which was certainly needed during those long cold winters. This was at a time when Russian leaders still wore clothes throughout the year rather than brandishing their bare chests at the cameras. The name Muñeca means “doll” in Spanish - confusing right? Why does this Siberian beauty have a Spanish name? On a business trip to Russia, Richard was given this doll as a gift when visiting a plywood mill in the middle of nowhere. Back on those days it was easy for immigrants to get into the United States as there were no bad hair days in the White House, no walls needed to be scaled to get in and so Muñeca boldly presented herself to the US Immigration and Customs agents and was welcomed with open arms.. At about this time Maggie and Richard were taking Spanish classes and so the name Muñeca was a logical choice for this adopted Siberian. Inexplicably Muñeca turned up in either Maggie’s or Richard’s bags every time one of them took a business trip without the other. So Muñeca become like one of those gnomes that travel and cause disruption and havoc all over the world. When Maggie started leading hikes in the Rocky Mountain National Park, Muñeca refused to be left behind and summited many a peak in the rugged Colorado mountains. Muñeca misses Maggie, her infectious smile and unbounded love of life and knows that the best way to honor that incredible, loving human being is to show the world that we have more in common than that which divides us.
